"Quiet Quit", today, now.
Silent Lucidity
"It was all a bad dream spinning in your head
Your mind tricked you to feel the pain..."
Somehow, working normal hours, fulfilling your responsibilities on a 9-5 schedule, or in the #WFA world is being demonized by corporate America.
To use a common vernacular, the #RTO movement has been weaponized.
If the goals of your job can only be achieved during non-paid, post-regular business hours, your employer is taking advantage of you. - you're not being paid to fall for the "after five is when the real work begins" dogman.
I know working 12 hours a day is pitched as the only way to 'get ahead' in this world and I'm not advocating "not working hard" - But don't you feel the fear of Covid has illuminated the futility of 'working hard' for somebody else?
"Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize and you were scared
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind..."
You're trading family for work relationships you wouldn't have when given a choice - what EXACTLY was a Work-Spouse, anyway and how did that become legitimized?
Regardless, don't fall for it.
During the hiring process, when you ask for a "typical day" and the prospective manager responds, "We work hard and we play hard. The best people here arrive around 7AM and never leave at 5." let those Red Flags fly - and so should you.
At best, the culture is primitive, and at worst, exploitive.
“Work is not just a place anymore but should be a source of fulfilling relationships and a community to which employees feel connected,” says Niamh Graham, SVP of Global Human Experience at Workhuman. “It should add to their happiness and provide a sense of meaning to their lives, making them feel a part of something bigger, something better and full of positivity.”
The above statement is a fallacy - propaganda. When did 'work' become a religion, and cube farms become 'church'?
Environments that subsist under this belief tend to foster other negative influences like sexism, nepotism, and hostility - all factors rolled into the "you've got to have a thick skin to make it in this world, kid" mantra.
Play the game, turn the tables, learn as much as you can about selling, businesses process(I'm betting your dealership has great examples of clogged business processes), and working with prospects as a peer.
Then get out.
"Visualize your dream
Record it in the present tense
Put it into a permanent form
If you persist in your efforts
You can achieve dream control, dream control
How are we feeling today, better?"
Remember, H/R is not your friend. Anyone who refers to you as a resource puts you in the same bin as raw materials, utilities and a Sku'd product line.
Check out the view and opinion of one HR specialist posing the question, Can HR stop Quiet Quitting before it happens?
"Yes, you can curb the trend based on the mindset: I want to take care of myself and reclaim control of my mental and physical well-being by setting healthy boundaries at work, knowing my time is valuable. "
So, a want to take care of oneself is demonized. HR is not your friend.
It is this person's view that a willing media is promoting the anti-#WFA doctrines. Follow the money.
"You're safe from the pain in the dream domain
A soul set free to fly
A round trip journey in your head
Master of illusion, can you realize
Your dream's alive, you can be the guide but..."
