My #WorkFromAnywhere Journey Began in #1980. Yours did too.

"Telepresence: The Future of Work From Anywhere Culture"

"Could the future of work involve working from the moon?".

As the world continues to evolve and change, so too does the nature of work.

With advancements in technology and increasing globalization, the idea of working from anywhere is becoming increasingly feasible. But what if "anywhere" wasn't limited to the confines of planet Earth? Could the future of work involve working from the moon?

While it may seem far-fetched, the reality is that telepresence technology is making the idea of remote work from space a distinct possibility.
_________

Marvin Minsky was a visionary.

Forty-two years ago, he was ahead of his time, with big ideas about technology and science.

He was a regular contributor to a science and science fiction magazine that was published monthly. This magazine was a unique blend of science fiction and fact, with articles that ranged from in-depth looks at NASA and UFO sightings to quick updates on the latest scientific advancements. Despite its focus on cutting-edge technology and outer space, it surprisingly did not feature any articles about "Star Trek" or "Star Wars."

The first couple of paragraphs summarize and predicts the future:
"Teaching machines how to think for themselves is what Marvin Minsky does best, As founder of MIT's artificial intelligence laboratory, Minsky directs one of the world's leading research groups in computers and robotics.  In this exclusive essay, the cyberscientist from Cambridge proposes a 20-year plan that will alleviate the painful side effects of modern civilization."

Telepresence: Revolutionizing the Future of Work

Marvin Minsky was a visionary in the field of computer science and robotics.

In 1980, he wrote an essay proposing a 20-year plan for technology that would change the way we work and live. Minsky, the founder of MIT's artificial intelligence laboratory, envisioned a future where telepresence was a reality.

In his essay, he described a world where people could wear a jacket lined with sensors and muscle-like motors that would allow them to remotely control mechanical hands to perform tasks from a distance.
"You don a comfortable jacket lined with sensors and musclelike motors. Each motion of your arm, hand, and fingers is reproduced at another place by mobile mechanical hands. Light dextrous and strong these hands have their own sensors through which you see and feel what is happening.  Using this instrument, you can work in another room in another city in another country, or on another planet.  Your remote presence possesses the strength of a giant..."
Fast forward to the present day, and telepresence has become an integral part of our work culture. From remote work to telecommuting, telepresence has reduced transportation costs, and commuting time, and enabled people to perform multiple jobs in different locations.
"A reduction of transportation costs and energy and commuting time, enabling one person to do different jobs in different places. Mass transportation could be replaced by ubiquitous taxis, remotely controlled by teleoperation. Telepresence devices could fix sewers, electrical conduits, and water mains from within. Teleoperation will do away with all hazardous and unpleasant tasks." - Marvin Minsky, 1980
However, telepresence is not without its limitations and challenges. Currently, telepresence devices still face limitations in their ability to provide a fully immersive experience.

However, as technology continues to evolve, the potential for telepresence and remote augmented reality to transform the way we work and live is immense.

In the service industry, telepresence has the potential to allow companies to perform simple tasks remotely while empowering their team members to assist others from afar, all for a fraction of the cost of hiring new employees.

By exploring the potential of telepresence and remote augmented reality, companies can stay ahead of the curve and not be left behind.

Marvin Minsky's visionary ideas from 1980 have come full circle and telepresence has become an essential part of our work culture. With continued advancements in technology, the possibilities for telepresence and remote augmented reality are limitless.

Don't miss out on the opportunities that these innovative technologies provide. (2023)

Search question: "How is telepresence technology being used in the service industry?"

LinkedIn intro: As the world continues to shift towards a more remote work culture, businesses are looking for new and innovative ways to keep up with the pace of change. One technology that is increasingly being utilized by companies across various industries is telepresence. Telepresence refers to a set of technologies that enable a person to feel as if they are present in a remote location, typically through the use of audio and video equipment. From reducing transportation costs to providing a more immersive remote experience, telepresence is transforming the way businesses operate. In this post, we'll take a closer look at how telepresence is being used in the modern workplace and explore the benefits it offers.
