Earth Day. Was 1977 all that Different?

It's a wonder the sun still comes up.  The first Earth Day was in 1977.

Back then is was litter, Give a Hoot, acid rain, save the Whales, No Nukes & the coming Ice Age.

Lakes were cleaned, toxic soil removed and reasonable legislation initiated.

Back then it was positive and effective.  All very positive.

Or Was it?

Today, the news is 2.4 billion workers face climate risks, we've started naming blizzards, ALL news shows start with national weather reports, the 'number of people effected' by wind, rain and maybe even darkness embedded into headlines.
"This planet is threatened with destruction and we who live in it, with death.  The heavens reek, the waters below are foul.  Children die in infancy and we and the world which is our home live on the brink of nuclear annihilation.  We are in a crisis of survival."
It seems everything we do as humans, negatively impacts the climate and it is all YOUR fault.  You eat too much cattle, you drive too many miles in your earth-killing machines and you cut down trees.  Paper grocery bags were bad, so plastic bags were brought in.  When plastic was considered bad, we purchased cloth, reusable totes to carry our stakes, packaged in plastic, milk in a plastic jug, and healthy, environmentally appropriate salads encased in a plastic box.

"We live on the brink...a crisis of survival.  Protesters...young...white...and anti Nixon...

Check out the attached video from 1977. Has anything REALLY changed?
