Is There Another Kodak Moment in the Industry's Future?

"Scanning" Is Back?

As the Managed Print Services renaissance continues, the mundane and taken for granted "scan-once-print many" feature is also finding revived popularity AND relevance.

Who knew?

This @Kodak Alaris recent strategic pivot to focus heavily on Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) underscores their commitment to a smaller yet growing copier industry niche, document capture and workflow optimization.

Is "Intelligent Document Processing" a logo or an ideal?

I know a few things:
  1. Businesses are looking to digitize the remaining existing paper files/documents
  2. Companies want easy methods of ingesting printed information into their existing software
  3. Technology costs have come down
  4. The application of artificial intelligence will reduce errors, shorten implementation schedules and adapt optimize future processes.
Is Kodak the right solution for you to start promoting and selling?

As with all great questions, the answer is 'it depends'.

But seeing an nostalgic logo emerge from the past, offering a solid, relevant solution while engaging cutting edge tech, is both a comfort and refreshing.

Who is Kodak Alaris?

Kodak Alaris was formed in 2013 as a spin-off from Eastman Kodak Company (Kodak). At that time, Kodak was undergoing a major restructuring effort to emerge from bankruptcy.

In September 2013, Kodak announced that it would be spinning off its Document Imaging and Personalized Imaging businesses into a new company, which would be owned by the UK-based Kodak Pension Plan (KPP). The new company was named Kodak Alaris.

Kodak Alaris began operating as a standalone company on September 3, 2013, with its headquarters in Hemel Hempstead, UK. The company's formation was part of Kodak's efforts to focus on its core businesses, including commercial printing, packaging, and functional printing.

Since its formation, Kodak Alaris has continued to develop and market document scanners, software, and services, building on the legacy of the Kodak brand in the document imaging market.

Here's a brief timeline:

September 2013: Kodak announces the spin-off of its Document Imaging and Personalized Imaging businesses.

September 3, 2013: Kodak Alaris begins operating as a standalone company.

2014: Kodak Alaris launches its new brand identity and starts to develop its own product roadmap.

Note that Eastman Kodak Company (Kodak) and Kodak Alaris are two separate companies, with distinct product offerings and market focuses.
