Photizo Group Launches MPS Insights.com Portal
And by Portal, I mean doorway.
There are a good number of MPS News sites popping up.
I remember the good ole days when it was just me and Google Alerts.
No worries, the more MPS-news-type sites that sprout up, the more readers I attract - odd.
Anywho - Photizo is re-vamping and relaunching their MPS Specific Portal.
As I am sure some reading this may "feel" that DOTC is colluding with Photizo, I do quote them often, please know, that if there were better MPS sources, I would mention them as well.
Just remember I define what "better" is.

Managed Print Services: Six "Need to Know's" from Photizo Group
This is a cut and paste, of an article from the Photizo blog - great stuff.
All points are relevant, especially for all of the "newbs" in the niche.
One point - not only are these arguments based on studies, I have seen evidence of all six, in the field.
Good read.
Six Things You Should Know About Managed Print Services
1. On average, companies save $1M (30% of total hardcopy cost), reduce hardcopy (printer, copier, and MFP) carbon emissions by 60%, and free up 10% of their IT staff who were previously devoted to supporting printers by implementing a Managed Print Services strategy.
Firms of all sizes are seeing significant benefits from implementing an MPS strategy. By outsourcing the entire ‘document production’ process including the hardcopy devices, document workflow strategy, and support services, customers are able to achieve a significant reduction in cost while achieving significant environmental benefits.

2. Managed Print Services is more than just Cost Per Copy or providing an assessment to right size the fleet. Managed Print Services (MPS) entails the outsourcing of the fleet and document strategy to ensure the customer’s business process optimization goals are met.
In order to do this, an MPS provider must act as a professional services firm which offers multiple services in order to meet the customers requirements. In fact, over 70% of all MPS engagements include all of the following components:
• Vendor returns service call in 2 hours
• Next day service response time
• Understanding color print/copy requirements
• Same day service (4-hr response)
• Device installation
• Help desk services
• Assessment provided for the initial MPS agreement
• End user training
• Parts depot close to user sites
• 24x7 customer service line
• Recommendations on device deployment
• Remote or on-site monitoring of devices
Source: The Photizo Group’s on-going study of Managed Print Service engagements in North America and Western Europe. The firm collects data from over 700 MPS decision makers each year.
3. Managed Print Services is the fastest growing segment of the imaging industry. In fact, the MPS market is growing at a compound annual growth rate of over 25% a year. In fact, the market will reach over $45B annually by 2013. By 2013 Managed Print Services will represent over 35% of the total imaging market and over 35% of all business print devices will be under a Managed Print Services contract.
Source: The Photizo Group’s 2009 MPS Market Size, Share, and Forecast Report.
4. There are three stages which customers go through in the adoption of Managed Print Services.
The first stage is to gain control of the fleet. 29% of all MPS engagements are at this stage. 47% of all MPS engagements are at the second stage, the stage of optimizing the fleet to ensure devices are deployed in the most efficient and effective manner. 23% of all MPS engagements are at the third stage of MPS, enhancing the business process. The third stage is about enhancing business processes by engaging document workflow and document management solutions.
Source: The Photizo Group’s on-going study of Managed Print Service engagements in North America and Western Europe. The firm collects data from over 700 MPS decision makers each year.
5. IT is typically the department responsible for managing the Managed Print Services engagement. In fact, 60% of the time, the IT department manages the MPS engagement.
Source: The Photizo Group’s on-going study of Managed Print Service engagements in North America and Western Europe. The firm collects data from over 700 MPS decision makers each year.
6. Hybrid dealers will dominate the Managed Print Services market. Hybrid dealers are those resellers (both dealers and IT VARs) who have transitioned from a hardware centric business model to a professional services business model based on delivering Managed Print Services. Hybrid dealers and ‘committed’ dealers (dealers who are committed to making this business model transition) make up less than 25% of all resellers and dealers. Fence sitting and ‘testing’ resellers (traditional hardware centric resellers) make up over 75% of all resellers.
The Photizo Group predicts that half of these traditional resellers will be out of business within the next five years as they fail to make the transition to the new business model.
Source: The Photizo Group’s Hybrid Dealer Report (Published January 2009)
The Photizo Group believes that Managed Print Services represents a disruptive business model which will affect all aspects of the value chain, including manufacturers, distribution channels, and other service providers.
Firms that make the transition to a professional services led business model will achieve a significant competitive advantage over firm’s which retain the traditional hardware centric business model. Understanding the evolution of this new business model is critical to all participants in the industry, including end users.

Managed Print Services: The Summer of 2010 Rising Stars - Constellation One
When I was a kid back in high school, I remember being told that humans were the only species on the planet that could crane their necks and face the sky.
I have since learned this is more a romantic notion than factual as birds are thought to navigate via the stars
To me, the real difference is our ability to assign patterns to the star filled sky and create stories around those pictographs - a uniquely human quality.
In this spirit, I present to you dear reader, my Summer of 2010 Constellation of MPS Rising Stars.
These few are in my opinion, walking the walk and talking the talk when it comes to MPS.
Does this mean that everybody else sucks? No, not at all.
What it does mean is that we who play in the MPS sandbox, can look to this pattern in the sky, and study. Learn. Adapt. Improve.
Alas, it is a shame that I need to even mention this, but, as with everything else I have ever posted, this is MY opinion only.
NOT the MPSA.
And this is not a scientific study.
Also, I don't take money from any of these stars, so it's not like the "quadrant".
I am not part of a multi-national, media conglomerate, so these stand-outs don't pay to be in any of my trade shows or "published" in any poser magazines.
I am not carpetbagging "How to Sell MPS" classes.
You are free to disagree but please remember, I write for an audience of one: me.

The MPS Forecast and Share Report covers both programs offered directly from manufacturers and those offered through channel partners.

The Top Six Managed Print Services Organizations of 2012

Before Gartner ever considered an MPS Quadrant, Photizo was there.
IDC, didn't know MPS.
Back then, half of our "esteemed" instructors carpet bagged on dealer fear.
When the consultants of the day were espousing the similarity of MpS to color and poo-pooing MpS as "just another marketing scheme..." Photizo tagged the name "Hybrid Dealer" - of course, they copied the phrase.
That's what Copiers Do.

That's what Copiers Do.
While others were 'find and replacing' the word 'copier' for 'MPS', Photizo published the Three Adoption Stages of MpS.
And just as others enveloped those three into their MPS talk-track, Photizo added even more stages, resulting in the above chart.

They've gotten it. They've been on it from day one.
Now some in our ecosystem confuse me with them, promoting me as a Photizo employee or worse, their hatchet-man. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem being a GunSlinger, but I choose both my allies and my targets - nobody tells me where the Red Dot lands.
Truly, if back in the day anybody else was saying what Photizo was saying, I would acknowledge them as well.
"...Sooner or later, One has to take sides, if one is to remain human..."
So we make our choices and we stick with the plan. I chose Photizo because they've been right there on the same page as I, seeing the same things I have in the field from Genesis. And sometimes, they make people uncomfortable - awe, poor baby...

Photizo Group Announces MPS Program Benchmarking Study Objective evaluation designed to help dealers find best program partners
Lexington, KY – May 13, 2009 – The Photizo Group today announced the MPS Program Benchmarking Study™ to provide dealers with objective assessments of competing managed print programs offered by vendors and infrastructure providers. This helps dealers make good business choices and promotes profitable, long-term MPS relationships.
The Photizo Group specializes in analysis of the printing and imaging industry and is the market’s main source for ongoing business intelligence about the burgeoning Managed Print Services opportunity.
The Photizo Group is the thought leader for Managed Print Services, providing insight to the manufacturer, dealer / reseller, infrastructure provider, and end user communities.
“Dealers are often at the forefront of MPS engagements and relationships, and they are confronted with an increasing number and variety of program offerings. While there are a number of excellent MPS programs available from vendors, the dealer community has no clear guidance on which programs are right for them based on their specific needs. Different dealers require different programs, but until now, there have been no credible third party assessments of various approaches relative to MPS requirements. This new study provides neutral guidance to help dealers identify vendors best suited to meet the needs of their organization, based upon their stage of MPS adoption,” said Ed Crowley, Founder and Senior Partner of the Photizo Group.
The MPS Program Benchmarking Study begins with the “ideal” deliverables needed for a particular dealer given their stage of MPS adoption, and then maps vendor programs against this standard. The dealer’s stage of MPS adoption is evaluated based upon the proprietary “Hybrid Dealer Adoption Model” developed by the Photizo Group. The evaluation establishes a baseline by matching the dealer’s stage of MPS adoption against the MPS capabilities that are required based on the typical expected customer engagements. The customer needs criteria are based on the lifecycle of the MPS engagement, according to the popular MPS Adoption Cycle developed by the Photizo Group.
Program evaluation criteria include items such as infrastructure assessments, hardware break / fix service, remote device monitoring, and integrating device monitoring into a billing system. The evaluations for each item are positioned on a sliding-scale analysis.
Then the study objectively analyzes program features and execution to determine how well a vendor’s program components as well as support activities addresses each stage. By compiling the individual factors, the study evaluates and scores each overall program relevant to the vendor’s ability to deliver the capabilities needed for that engagement.
According to Mr. Crowley, “We are providing MPS vendors with an opportunity to sponsor the study. While we require final say on all criteria and analysis, we do encourage input into the definition of the criteria for the study. We have been pleasantly surprised by the response to the study, and in fact, we have already surpassed our initial sponsorship targets. Once again, I believe we have identified a key need in the industry and stepped up with a unique solution.”
Other sponsor benefits include:
· The complete report (150-200 pages) detailing results for all vendors
· Nominating customers for validation
· Special pricing for reprints
The report will be available for purchase by dealers in late July. For more information about the upcoming MPS Program Benchmarking Study and sponsorships, contact Photizo at (859) 873-4518 or info@managed-print-services.com.

Photizo Group Announces Call for Speakers for 2010 Managed Print
2009
If you don't know by now, Photizo is the leader in MPS related research and stuff; it's all they do.
I doubt very much they will be buying a knitting or supply chain research company in the very near future.
I shall be in Austin, attending, and speaking at the MPS Conference.
Of course, just like all other conferences, the best conversations and discussions occur "after hours" over "adult beverages" but the day-walker sessions are very informative.
If you have something to contribute to the MPS Ecosystem, drop them a line and get behind the podium.
Otherwise, make sure you reserve a spot and a hotel room early - and don't worry, the river isn't that deep should you fall in, you can walk to the shore.

Opportunity to contribute thought leadership in billion dollar MPS
market
Lexington, KY – December 3, 2009 – Managed Print Services end users and channel partners are invited to share their best practices and successful case studies at the 2010 North American MPS Conference May 3-5 in San Antonio, TX. The Photizo Group is accepting proposals for panels and sessions at this premier industry event. The deadline for speaker submissions is January 15, 2010.
The conference is designed for all types of MPS experience and interest. MPS decision makers, vendors and channel partners benefit from the rich agenda of relevant topics. CIOs, CFOs, IT managers, facilities managers and purchasing departments who have implemented MPS or are considering it can learn from best practices, case studies and how-to guides. Vendors, resellers and infrastructure providers gain information on the emerging hybrid channel, infrastructure, best practices, research and market projections.
The 2010 MPS Conference will also include the popular pre-conference workshops for end users and channel partners having limited MPS background and experience. The pre-conference sessions focus on establishing a solid foundation of MPS knowledge.
“We welcome session ideas from anyone in the MPS marketplace. Given the wide range of topics that can be accommodated by the two track format and the pre-conference workshops, we expect an enthusiastic response from speakers who would like to share their knowledge with this audience,” said Ed Crowley, Founder and Senior Partner of the Photizo Group.
The Photizo Group hosts the annual MPS Conference.
The MPS Conferences address the urgent need for information about the fast-growing managed print services market. The Photizo Group estimates the MPS market is now worth over $25 billion globally and projects a $60 billion industry by 2013. Signaling strong market support for the second annual North American MPS Conference, industry leaders OKI Printing Solutions and Ricoh have already signed on as
Platinum Sponsors for the 2010 event. Print Audit has joined as a Silver Sponsor for the event.
Speaker forms and topic information can be found at Http://www.mpsconference.com/forms/2010NA_speaker_app.html.
Applications for speakers must be submitted by January 15, 2010. For information about MPS 2010 sponsorship and exhibiting opportunities, agendas and registration, visit www.mpsconference.com.

The first track will be targeted to companies that are embarking on their first MPS program and the second, to firms that want to make their existing programs more effective through advanced MPS services such as document management optimization and workflow enhancement. The third track focuses on the small business and their MPS implementation issues.
All conference attendees will have an opportunity to participate in the information-packed sessions with subjects ranging from market data, case studies, and best practice presentations all geared to the success of their MPS programs. Conference speakers are MPS practitioners from a range of companies who have practical, real world experience which will benefit both those companies that have existing MPS programs and companies who are considering launching an MPS program.
"In the course of our speaking to literally hundreds of MPS decision makers, a common concern has been the lack of forums for sharing unbiased, practical experience for optimizing businesses through Managed Print Services. The Photizo Group has developed this forum specifically to fill that gap," said Ed Crowley, founder and president of the Photizo Group. "This intensive two day conference will arm the decision maker with unbiased information to control, optimize and enhance a Managed Print Service program from the ground up."
The Managed Print Services Conference will be held at the Omni La Mansion del Rio in San Antonio, Texas on Sunday, April 26, 2009, 6:00 pm through Tuesday, April 28, 2009, 4:00 pm. Early bird registration, now open, is $795. After December 1, registration will be $995.

The market has responded enthusiastically to the upcoming 2010 North American MPS Conference May 3-5 in San Antonio, TX. Exhibit space is sold out, and the agenda has been expanded to three speaking tracks to accommodate increased attendance and interest.
The second annual North American MPS Conference focuses on the theme: “MPS: The Next Stage” and offers case studies, techniques, and ideas for moving to the next stage of MPS engagements. MPS decision makers, vendors and channel partners have signed up in record numbers to benefit from a rich agenda of relevant topics. Photizo Group, the leading research firm specializing in the printing and imaging industry, hosts the popular MPS Conference series, which have brought educational programs to MPS markets around the world.
Stellar Line Up of Industry Professionals
The North American MPS Conference promises a stellar line up of speakers, with multiple keynote presentations, as well as the definitive “State of the Industry” session delivered by Ed Crowley of Photizo Group. The keynote presenters are:
· Mark Boelhouwer, Vice President of Strategic Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation
· Dena Bernard, Director, Customer Satisfaction and Services, Oki Data Americas, Inc.
· Jason Evans, founding partner and CEO of PEQ Service + Solutions (which was acquired by Buchanan Technologies last year) and recently featured in MPSmentor
Chasing Customers, Outrunning Competitors
According to the Photizo Group, the most significant growth factors during the next two years will be evolution of distribution channels, continued focus on cost savings and aggressive vendor programs. The MPS Conference agenda provides a number of sessions geared to these information needs. The expanded three-track format offers targeted education covering a number of MPS areas. A diverse range of managed print services topics such as best practices in implementing managed print services, sales and marketing best practices, change management, transforming the dealership, and selling into the SMB market are all part of the industry’s only dedicated MPS conference.
“Expanding the agenda gives attendees ample opportunities to attend all the sessions they want. With much at stake for participants in this multi-billion dollar industry, it’s important to adjust and accommodate their educational needs and interests,” said Photizo Group CEO Ed Crowley. Photizo Group estimates that the MPS market is currently worth over $25 billion globally and projects it will be a $60 billion market by 2013. “Channel professionals and vendors are also coming on board in record numbers. With the nearly sold out exhibit area, attendees are sure to find solutions and advice to support their MPS goals. The across-the-board enthusiasm and support signal strong interest in the red-hot managed print services market, and the conference is designed to provide the information necessary for success.”
Best Practices, Best Networking
The conference features case studies, panels, exhibitions and interactive sessions that highlight successful approaches and valuable takeaways from actual MPS engagements. Some of the practical topics covered at the San Antonio Conference are managing RFPs and contracts, financial models for MPS providers, and sales and marketing best practices. Decision makers, vendors and channel partners can also network and share their insights and experiences with MPS engagements.

The 2011 Global Managed Print Conference - Why You Should Not Attend
Back then, copier guys were simply trying to stay alive - not much has changed today - the OEM's had no clue and the IT sector saw nothing wrong with 2 point printer deals, attached to CarePacks. Okay, so maybe that hasn't changed all that much either.
The 2011 Global MPS Conference is going to be huge - to date, the number of registered matches the number of attendees at the 2009 Conference.
When most charge for the honor of speaking and need to piggy-back with other, failing conferences, how many shows do you know that are experiencing an INCREASE in attendance?
In the Imaging Industry?
